Honk N' Wave Rally on May 1, 2025
![]() |
On May 1st, rallies are planned across the country, part of MayDay Strong. For this May Day 2025, participants demand that our country put our families over billionaires' fortunes, public schools over profits, healthcare over hedge funds, housing over homelessness.
We encourage you to take part in a local event organized by Indivisible Watauga: a Honk N' Wave Rally on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4:30-6:30 pm on the sidewalks along Blowing Rock Road in Boone (in front of Publix).
You have several ways you could take part.
1. Bring a sign and join us to stand or sit along the sidewalk on the Publix side of 321/Blowing Rock Road in Boone. The more people who show up, the longer the line will be along the sidewalk, and/or
2. Drive by and wave and honk to show your support, and/or
3. Donate to Hospitality House's food drive: You can bring food to the collection barrels in the Publix parking lot or donate money online at https://www.hosphouse.org/
It helps the local group with planning if you can RSVP to let them know you are coming.
More information from Indivisible Watauga:
- There will be a tent with Indivisible Watauga banners in the grass by the sidewalk in front of Publix to accept food donations, answer questions, and help direct people.
- Bring signs and posters with slogans such as "Stop the billionaire takeover" and "We are the many, they are the few!"
- Be sure not to block the sidewalk completely so that runners, walkers, and pedestrians can still pass.
- Be kind and courteous. Meet and greet your neighbors. Courage is contagious!
Parking information:
There are many business parking areas along the targeted sidewalk, so if you choose to park in one of them, please be considerate and if possible, patronize the businesses where you park. You can also carpool and choose one person to drop everyone off and honk and wave while others stand along the sidewalks. If parking is a challenge, remember that honking and waving is one way to participate.
Note: A core principle behind our May Day actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to deescalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
