The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit organization that conducts in-depth, nonpartisan research to improve policy and governance at local, national, and global levels.

The Kaiser Family Foundation gathers policy research, polling, and journalism on national health issues to be a counterweight to health care's vested interests and a voice for people.

The National Council of State Legislatures provides resources to legislative staff and works to support the effectiveness, independence, and integrity of legislatures.

The Southern Poverty Law Center works in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. 

The ACLU today is the nation's largest public interest law firm, with a 50-state network of staffed, autonomous affiliate offices. It is non-profit and non-partisan.

Watauga County resident Jerry Williamson's salty blog monitoring state and local politics provides insight, links, and commentary not usually available elsewhere.

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. A helpful substitute if you need to take a break from formerly reliable U.S. newspapers.

El Pueblo is working to improve the living conditions of Latine immigrants in North Carolina by advocating for fair laws and policies that create positive change for our community.

The NC Bill Tracker provided by the Sunshine Center of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition tracks state-level legislative activity related to government transparency, freedom of information, access to records, and open meetings.
